CVE-2026-96280 is a heap buffer overflow in Flatpak's OCI delta-stream processing on 32-bit systems. The parser reads path-name size values as 64-bit unsigned integers, then supplies those values to GLib I/O and allocation interfaces that use gsize, which is 32 bits on affected platforms. Values exceeding the 32-bit range are silently truncated, potentially producing an undersized allocation followed by a write beyond the allocated heap buffer while processing an OCI delta stream.

An important heap buffer overflow vulnerability in Flatpak's OCI delta-stream parser affecting 32-bit systems. A malicious OCI registry can supply crafted delta streams that exploit 64-bit-to-32-bit size truncation during Flatpak installation or update, potentially enabling code execution in the Flatpak client process. It is not practically exploitable on 64-bit systems because gsize and guint64 have the same width.
A critical, network-reachable vulnerability affecting Debian Linux 12.0, rated CVSS v3 9.8, with no privileges or user interaction required and high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.
A Flatpak buffer-overflow vulnerability affecting OCI delta-stream path-name processing on 32-bit systems.
