CVE-2026-96282 is a path-traversal vulnerability in Flatpak extension metadata handling. During application launch, Flatpak performs host-side file operations within extension content directories using path-based APIs that follow symbolic links without confinement. A malicious extension can direct these operations to arbitrary host paths via symlinks. Metadata fields including directory, subdir_suffix, add_ld_path, and merge_dirs were not adequately validated against path traversal, enabling host filesystem probing and mounts at unintended locations.

A medium-severity Flatpak vulnerability in extension-content handling. Malicious Flatpak extensions can exploit unconstrained symlink traversal to expose filenames from arbitrary host directories to a sandboxed application, while unvalidated extension metadata paths can mount content in unintended sandbox locations and potentially override runtime directories.
An unpatched vulnerability tracked as CVE-2026-96282 affecting Debian Linux 12.0 with Flatpak indicated in the CPE information. The supplied CVSS v3 vector rates network-accessible, unauthenticated impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability as High.
A Flatpak extension-metadata path-traversal vulnerability that permits host filesystem probing and unintended mount locations.
