CVE-2026-96878 is a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in the MediaWiki Cargo extension through version 3.9.4. Improper neutralization of user-controlled input during web-page generation can allow attacker-supplied script to be reflected into a page and executed in the browser of a victim who views a crafted URL or input.

The repository contains a README and a standalone Python 3 proof-of-concept generator, poc.py. It targets CVE-2026-96878, an HTML-encoding flaw in the MediaWiki Cargo extension's Exhibit renderer. The script accepts a Cargo table name and two field names, then prints a #cargo_query wikitext block configured with format=exhibit and view=tabular. It places an image/onerror DOM-marker payload in the second field alias, exercising the vulnerable rendering of aliases in HTML text and attribute contexts. This is an authorized-test PoC rather than a remote exploitation tool: it does not send requests, discover targets, establish persistence, or provide a shell. Successful rendering of the saved query causes browser-side JavaScript to run for a page visitor under the wiki origin; the supplied payload only sets document.body.dataset.cargoExhibit to 1.
