TA579
TA579 is a cybercriminal threat actor tracked by Proofpoint since August 2021. Proofpoint attributed a March 2022 DocuSign-themed Bumblebee campaign to TA579 with high confidence. The actor previously delivered BazaLoader and IcedID in past campaigns. In the observed Bumblebee activity, TA579 used email lures including DocuSign branding that led victims to zipped ISO files hosted on OneDrive, as well as HTML attachments masquerading as unpaid invoices. Proofpoint reported the HTML attachment chain used a redirect service it calls Cookie Reloaded, which in turn used Prometheus TDS to filter downloads based on time zone and cookies. The malicious ISO contained a LNK file and DLL, with the LNK executing the DLL via rundll32 to launch Bumblebee. The content also notes that TA579 campaign IDs supported a previously suspected relationship distributing for another threat actor. Known alias in the provided content: TA579.
