A Conversation With Jace Davis, Mallory's First Sales Hire

At Mallory, the people behind the mission matter as much as the mission itself. We're building the AI-native threat and exposure management platform that helps security teams answer the question that matters most: are we affected? As the team grows, we're introducing the people helping us get there, not just what they do, but why they're here. Jace Davis, our first sales hire, sat down with us to talk about purpose, building from scratch, and the impact he wants to have at Mallory. Here's Jace, in his own words.

What drives you, personally and professionally?

Family. It's the one constant across every chapter of my career. It's what gets me up in the morning, what pushes me to keep challenging myself, and what I credit for a lot of the best moments I've had.

“People can reach their absolute best when they have a strong enough why. For me, that's family. Everything else flows from that.”

That carries into how I work. I want to be someone customers and teammates can count on. When I think about the moments I'm proudest of, it always comes back to the people who worked together to accomplish something great. Some of my closest friendships came out of hard projects. Challenges forge connection, and connection is what makes a team work.

Outside of work, what are you into?

Basketball, hands down. I grew up in Utah as a die-hard Utah Jazz fan, back when they were making their Finals runs, and it's been a passion ever since. I love playing it, watching it, and talking hoops with anyone who'll listen.

One of my favorite traditions is catching the Jazz home opener with my son every season. It's something we get to share together, and at this point I think he might be even more obsessed than I am.

Why join as the first sales hire?

The chance to build something from the ground up and apply what I've learned.

Since starting out at FireEye and Mandiant 12 years ago, I've worked across business development, full-cycle sales, and leading teams. I've seen the sales motion from each seat.

Through that, I've learned I'm a builder. If something doesn't exist or can be improved, I want to create or improve it. The roles I'm proudest of are the ones where I got a blank page and was asked to build the messaging, the programs, the process, and the team, then got to see things come full circle. Being part of a small team was a big part of the appeal, too, because I can have a direct impact with my teammates.

Why Mallory, and why now?

We solve real challenges that every security team is facing. Attack surfaces keep growing, alert volume is past what anyone can triage, budgets are flat, and leaders want fewer tools to manage, not more. Threat intel tells you what's happening in the world. It doesn't tell you whether it matters to you. So analysts burn hours stitching together feeds, exposure data, and asset lists by hand just to answer one question: are we affected?

That kind of manual work is exactly what automation should handle, and that's what Mallory does. It generates intelligence live and connects it to what a team actually owns, so siloed TIP and exposure management work finally flows without anyone stitching it together. Teams can even plug it into their enterprise AI tools and go. They save hours on critical work, and the CISO gets fewer tools and a better board story.

“Threat intel tells you what's happening. Mallory tells you whether it matters to you and what to do about it.”

What impact do you want to have?

Here's what I'd want the team to know about me: I genuinely care about the people I work with and the customers we serve. That might sound simple, but I don't think it's something you can take for granted.

I've seen the gap between a team that trusts each other and one that doesn't. It's massive. Every place I've had real success, the relationships were strong first. I already see that at Mallory, and I'm excited to add to it.

On the sales side, I want to build a motion that works, together with the team. That means finding the process that delivers, getting sharper on what our customers need, and making sure that feedback shapes where Mallory goes next.

It won't be a straight line, building something new never is. What matters is facing the bumps head on, learning fast, and leaving the team better positioned for it. A year from now, I want to look back on a string of small, intentional decisions that added up to meaningful results.
