Eset researchers have discovered HybridPetya, a new malware variant that can bypass UEFI Secure Boot using a vulnerability in Microsoft's reloader.efi (CVE-2024-7344). HybridPetya encrypts the master file table on Windows systems and demands a $1,000 bitcoin ransom, but has not yet been observed in the wild. Systems patched against CVE-2024-7344 are not vulnerable to this threat.
