ESET researchers have identified HybridPetya, a ransomware and bootkit hybrid inspired by Petya/NotPetya, which can compromise UEFI-based systems and bypass Secure Boot using CVE-2024-7344. The malware encrypts the NTFS Master File Table and can install a malicious EFI application, but has not been observed in active attacks. Microsoft patched the exploited vulnerability in January 2025, and no aggressive propagation has been detected.
