APT18 is a China-linked espionage threat actor tracked under multiple aliases including Wekby, Scandium, Dynamite Panda, TG-0416, Threat Group-0416, Red Wraith, SilverViper, Satin Typhoon, Combine, and Elderwood Group. The actor has been associated with long-running intrusion activity focused on intelligence collection and remote access operations. Reported tradecraft includes use of remote access trojans such as Gh0st RAT, command execution through the Windows command shell, HTTP-based command-and-control, host profiling, directory and file enumeration, file upload capability, and cleanup of tools and batch files from compromised systems. Persistence has been established through Windows Registry Run-key autoruns. Public reporting has also linked the Wekby designation to DNS-based command-and-control using TXT and NULL records in at least some observed activity.
